Chattanooga Gas employees recycle in support of Earth Day April 23, 2008
Chattanooga, Tenn. – April 17, 2008 -- Chattanooga Gas has joined with Orange Grove Center for an Earth Day recycling initiative. Orange Grove Center is a private non-profit organization serving adults and children with developmental disabilities. The John F. Germ Recycling Center at Orange Grove presently employs more than 100 developmentally disabled citizens.
Recycling bins have been set-up at Chattanooga Gas for employees to bring items from home. Mixed paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, plastic soft drink bottles, and detergent bottles are some of the items being collected for Earth Day. These items will be delivered to the center on Wednesday, April 23.
A grassroots effort to save the environment almost 40 years ago, Earth Day has blossomed into a world-wide endeavor. Earth Day activities in Atlanta range from recycling and unplugging appliances to car-pooling and educational exhibits. All are ways to reduce our effect on the environment, a top priority for Atlanta Gas Light.
“As a natural gas company, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and those of our customers,” said Larry Buie, vice president Atlanta Gas Light. “Our employees who participate in Earth Day initiatives reinforce that goal.”
The efficiency and environmental friendliness of natural gas means that homes using it for heating, hot water and other appliances produce about 40 percent less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions than homes using electric appliances for these services.
Natural gas is the cleanest burning and most efficient fossil fuel, to help us bridge to America’s energy future.
