Chattanooga Gas Region Manager named Tennessee Gas Association President

July 30, 2010

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – July 30, 2010 - Chattanooga Gas announced today the appointment of two representatives to leadership positions with the Tennessee Gas Association (TGA), the professional organization of gas utilities and vendors in the Volunteer State

Chattanooga Gas Region Manager Larry Buie has been named TGA president, and Office Assistant Kathy Douglas has been named secretary. They will serve one-year terms.

“I am honored to be given this opportunity,” said Larry Buie, region manager, Chattanooga Gas. “Natural gas offers many benefits that make it an essential energy source for our state and our future. I am excited to educate consumers on its many uses and energy-efficiency properties.”

Buie became involved with the TGA when he served as chairman of the Education Steering Committee. His most recent role was vice-president.

“One of my objectives is to position the TGA to be more proactive when it comes to state energy legislation,” said Buie. “Gas companies are coming to the forefront of Tennessee’s energy picture.”
Chattanooga Gas is the first utility in the state to be approved for a rate design that allows the company to introduce an energySMART program to help customers reduce their natural gas usage and their energy cost.

Buie would like to increase TGA membership to include all of the 103 gas companies in Tennessee that are eligible to join. Currently 86 companies are members.

“We have a lot of small municipal systems,” he adds. “Our goal will be to enhance the value of membership through expanded benefits.”
Kathy, who has been with Chattanooga Gas since 1990, stepped in to assist Larry during his term as TGA’s first vice-president last year, so when he asked her to take on the secretary’s role in 2010, she gladly accepted.

Chattanooga Gas was one of the founding members of the TGA when it was established 48 years ago.
