Paperless Billing Terms

Applicability: These Paperless Billing terms and conditions, together with any other documents they expressly incorporate by reference, govern your use of any paperless billing program of a Southern Company Gas affiliated gas utility that links to these terms – the terms “we” and “Gas Utility” as used herein mean the gas utility of which you are customer (either Nicor Gas Company, Chattanooga Gas Company, or Virginia Natural Gas, Inc. as applicable).

  • Upon activation, you will no longer receive a paper bill. Instead, you will receive, depending on the paperless billing option you have enrolled in, a monthly email reminder or an SMS text message or push notification when your bill is available online or available to view in your mobile wallet as applicable (collectively referred to as “electronic or paperless billing and bills”).
  • You will also receive all Gas Utility general correspondence electronically (letters previously sent via U.S. Postal Service).
  • Payments can be made on your Gas Utility  account using our My Account functionality.
  • You may cancel paperless billing and return to receiving a paper bill and general correspondence at any time.

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY. BY ACCESSING THIS WEBSITE AND REQUESTING A MY ACCOUNT ONLINE SERVICE, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS BELOW. THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND APPLICABLE FEES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. ANY CHANGES WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS POSTED TO THIS WEBSITE FROM TIME TO TIME. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, PLEASE DO NOT ACCESS THIS WEBSITE.

Bill delivery
Activation – Upon activation of the electronic (paperless) billing feature, you will no longer receive a paper bill.

Notification – We will use our best efforts to present all of your electronic bills promptly. We will send an email notification or SMS text message (as applicable) to the email address or phone number listed on your account when your bill is ready to be viewed.

IT IS YOUR SOLE RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THIS INFORMATION IS ACCURATE, THAT YOU HAVE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS OR INSERVICE PHONE NUMBER AS APPLICABLE AND TO ENSURE YOUR EMAIL SYSTEM OR PHONE IS NOT BLOCKING OUR EMAIL OR SMS TEXT NOTIFICATIONS. IN THE EVENT YOU DO NOT RECEIVE NOTIFICATION, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SIGN IN AND CHECK ON THE DELIVERY OF NEW ELECTRONIC BILLS.

If emails are returned as undeliverable, we reserve the right to return your billing and general correspondence to paper. You may re-enroll at anytime after correcting any email address errors.

  • Cancellation of paperless billing - We reserves the right to cancel the presentment of electronic bills at any time. You may cancel paperless billing at any time. You will receive a paper bill via U.S. Postal Service during your next billing cycle. Please make sure to pay your final paperless bill (including any balance amount due) on the due date.
  • Non-Delivery of electronic bill(s) - You are responsible for ensuring timely payment of all bills and applicable late payment fees, regardless of delivery method or technical issues preventing the delivery of electronic bills.

Any discrepancies or disputes regarding the accuracy of your paperless billing summary or detail must be addressed by contacting us at G2cgccustomercare@southernco.com or calling 866.643.4168.

This Agreement does not alter your liability or obligations that currently exist between you and Gas Utility concerning your utility usage, and other products and services.

Service interruption, termination, cancellation or suspension
In the event you wish to cancel paperless billing, you may do so online using our My Account functionality. We reserve the right to accept or deny your request to participate in paperless billing or any of its online services. We may discontinue or make changes in the information or online services described herein at any time without prior notice to you and without any liability to you. We reserve the right to terminate any or all online services without prior notice to you.
As a result of hardware or software failure, system capacity overload, damage from weather or other acts of God or war, interruption of power supplies or other utility service, strike or other stoppage of labor, you further acknowledge that there cannot be a guarantee that communications or transactions conducted online will be without error, timely or absolutely secure, and that there may be system or other failures that may limit your ability to use the online services as intended or at all.

Service fees and additional charges
You are responsible for any and all telephone access fees, data fees, carrier text messaging fees and/or Internet service fees that may be assessed by your telephone and/or Internet service provider.

Address changes
It is your sole responsibility to ensure that the contact information in your online user profile is current and accurate. This includes, but is not limited to - name, address, phone number(s) and email address. Changes can be made either within the My Account application, by contacting us at G2cgccustomercare@southernco.com or calling 866.643.4168.

Information authorization
You agree that the information you provide to us can go through a verification process.

Errors and questions
In case of errors or questions about your paperless billing transactions, you should notify us as soon as possible by calling 866.643.4168 during normal weekday business hours or email us at G2cgccustomercare@southernco.com.

Password and security
You agree not to give or make available your password or other means to access your account to any unauthorized individuals. You are responsible for all payments you authorize using our website. If you permit Authorized Users or other persons to use paperless billing or your password or other means to access your account, you are responsible for any transactions they authorize. If you believe that your password or other means to access your account has been lost or stolen, or that someone may attempt to use your paperless billing account without your consent or has transferred money without your permission, you must notify us by calling 866.643.4168 during normal weekday business hours. Also, please contact your financial institution to report any unauthorized financial transactions.

Alterations and amendments
The applicable fees and service charges for paperless billing, online payments or other My Account transactions may be altered or amended by us from time to time. Any use of My Account after we makes these changes will constitute your agreement to such change(s). Further, we  may, from time to time, revise or update the applications, services, and/or related material, which may render all such prior versions obsolete.

Limitation of Liability
BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF HUMAN AND MECHANICAL ERROR, AS WELL AS OTHER FACTORS, THE WEBSITE AND ONLINE SERVICES (INCLUDING ALL INFORMATION CONTAINED ON THE WEBSITE) IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” GAS UTILITY AND THIRD PARTY DATA PROVIDERS ARE NOT PROVIDING ANY REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES REGARDING THE WEBSITE AND ONLINE SERVICES, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTIBILITY, NON-INFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS, FREEDOM FROM VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL CODE, OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE. FURTHER, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DELAY, DIFFICULTY IN USE, INACCURACY OF INFORMATION, COMPUTER VIRUSES, MALICIOUS CODE OR OTHER DEFECT IN THIS WEBSITE, OR THE INCOMPATIBILITY BETWEEN THIS WEBSITE AND FILES AND THE USER’S BROWSER OR OTHER SITE ACCESSING PROGRAM. GAS UTILITY WILL COMPLY WITH ITS OBLIGATIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPLICABLE LAWS AND REGULATIONS.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOST PROFITS, LOST OPPORTUNITY OR ANY INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF ANY USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE WEBSITE, ONLINE SERVICES OR ANY PORTION THEREOF, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER WE HAVE BEEN APPRISED OF THE LIKELIHOOD OF SUCH DAMAGES OCCURRING AND REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF ACTION, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE.

Enforceability and Governing Law
In the event that any of the terms or provisions of these Terms and Conditions shall be held to be unenforceable, the remaining terms and provisions shall be unimpaired and the unenforceable term or provision shall be replaced by such enforceable term or provisions as comes closest to the intention underlying the unenforceable term or provision. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of the state where the Gas Utility provides service and shall be subject to any other agreements you have entered into with us regarding your access to our website and use of our online services.
