Chattanooga Gas Shines Bright During Winter Storm Cora

As Winter Storm Cora blanketed Chattanooga with freezing rain, sleet and heavy snow on January 10, Chattanooga Gas and its dedicated employees stood ready to respond to approximately 72,000 customers across its service territory in Hamilton and Bradley counties.

In anticipation of the extreme winter weather, Chattanooga Gas coordinated closely with local and state officials and partners. The company activated additional on-call personnel to ensure service was maintained and calls were responded to safely, efficiently and promptly.

With widespread snow falling across the Tennessee Valley, Chattanooga Gas crews worked tirelessly around the clock to repair damaged infrastructure and restore service as temperatures continued to drop. Customer service representatives were on hand to field calls during the storm and throughout the weekend, ensuring that customers were supported.

Although operations have returned to normal, Chattanooga Gas is closely monitoring forecasts predicting another round of winter weather the week of January 20. In the event of another wintry mix or arctic blast, Chattanooga Gas will be ready to provide safe, affordable and reliable service to its customers.

To help communities stay safe during inclement weather, Chattanooga Gas encourages customers to adhere to the following natural gas safety tips

  • Exercise caution removing snow or ice from your natural gas vent or meter assembly. Use your hands or a broom, not a shovel, to brush away snow or ice from your meter and regulator. Shovels and other tools can damage the equipment.

  • Do not shovel snow up against your meter or vent or let excessive snow cover it.

  • Before removing downed trees, customers are encouraged to contact 8-1-1 to have the location of underground utility lines marked.

  • If a natural gas meter is damaged or an underground gas line is exposed, leave the area immediately, call 911 and then dial Chattanooga Gas’ 24-hour emergency response line at 1-866-643-4168, from a safe location.
